Comments:

I am currently working at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital in Chicago, Illinois. I work in our largest outpatient satellite as a Child Life Specialist and Activity Coordinator which is the job I chose 45 years ago. I love what I do. I have been married for 37 years but separated now. I have two grown sons who are my greatest joy and accomplishment in life. I was a stay-at-home-mom for six years and I am prouder of that than anything I have ever done. I am enjoying life to the max. Way better than high school!!

School Story:

Great memories of Fort Hunt! I wish I knew then what I know now. I was not really popular, really smart or very well known. However as I progressed through college, graduate school and professional experiences I have actually been pretty successful especially for a woman of our generation. I wish I had the self confidence and perseverance then that I have now. Better late than never!!

How often do you get back to Alexandria?

I don't get back often but would love to come back if we have a 50th reunion. One of my funny memories is a guy named Paul (handsome and beautiful blue eyes) who lived near the high school driving backwards around the median strip at the high school. He was trying to move the odometer backwards so his parents would not know how much he drove the car while they are away. Crazy!

Do you still see/talk to/hang out with any classmates? Who?

Not really. Just connected with Jerry Fasick on Facebook. No one else.

What would we be surprised to know about you?

I am very successful professionally. Was on TV in Baltimore and Raleigh, NC for my work. Published my research in a medical journal. Worked at great medical institutions like Johns Hopkins, Duke Medical Center and Children's Memorial Hospital in Chicago.

What are your memories of high school (i.e. secret crush, embarrassing moment, funniest thing you did in high school, favorite high school hang out, favorite teachers)?

Secret crush was named Barry—can't remember his last name. Madly in love with Ron Boger but i think he just didn't know how to tell me "it's not happening". My favorite teacher without a doubt was David Levy, history teacher. He was a great teacher and person I remember on day a guy named Willie came to class late and we started joking about it. Dr. Levy said we should be ashamed of ourselves because he was a father and was trying to finish his education. That made a real lifelong impact on me. He really cared about kids not being entitled & snotty which most of us were.

Biggest thing you would do differently if you went back to your time at high school?

Be more humble about how lucky I was and how good I had it in life. I would try to notice and be nice to people that no one paid attention to. I was okay about that but I could have been better. I would not be so obsessed with the "in crowd" who I later learned were not that great—just followers trying to be popular but did not have character. I so wanted to be noticed and accepted by them.

I remember John and Bonnie so well.  They were such a cute couple and maybe one of the few that married after being high school sweethearts.  I remember John always wearing starched, button down collar shirts!   So sad to her of his death.  Everyone is still 18 years old to me.  Bonnie, I too live in Illinois not far from you.  I am in downtown Chicago.  Feel free to email if you would like anntrichards50@gmail.com.  We almost connected once through Priscilla Campbell but I think your kids got chicken pox!

I remember Don's face so clearly.  The picture in the Tribune was exactly as I remembered him.  He is someone I have often thought about since we graduated because he seemed he was made for greatness.  But on top of all of his accomplishments in high school he was also a nice guy.  I was the girl who was not popular or a member of the "in crowd" but he was always nice to me.  Ironically I live in Chicago now and was surprised that he lived in Lake Forest.  I send prayers to his family and especially to his father.  No parent wants to ourlive their child but he raised a wonderful son.
