In Memory

John England - Class Of 1968

DECEASED ALUM:  JOHN ENGLAND, FHHS '68

It is with great sadness that I send you this notification about the passing of our FHHS '68 classmate, John England. He passed away on December 27 after a battle with cancer. John's wife, Bonnie Craigmile England, is also FHHS '68. At FHHS, they were a popular and much beloved couple. Bonnie requests that donations in John's memory be made to The V Foundation for Cancer Research (www.v.org). Expressions of sympathy can be sent to Bonnie at her home: 1717 Galloway Circle, Barrington, IL 60010.  An obituary will be forthcoming.

There are very few people who I got to know at Fort Hunt.  We weren't close friends, but he was always kind and came with an easy smile. John was someone who was always interested and took the time to ask.    Bonnie, I'm sorry for your loss.

Remembering John England brings a smile to my face.  Though we didn’t know each other very well, seeing John and Bonnie walking happily together through FHHS hallways between classes and at special events was always a delightful sight.  They seemed so confident, knowing who they were, where they were going, and that they were meant for each other. The last time that I saw them was at our 50th class reunion for which Bryant Cochran and I performed the music.  John and Bonnie were still glowing happily together and looked very much the same as when we had to age-up for our roles in the senior class play.  Along with my heartfelt condolences to Bonnie and family I will share this link to a song I wrote several years back for friend who had passed.  It has been shared at many memorial services since.  I hope that it will serve as a source of comfort to all blessed to know and love John.

I, too, was saddened to hear of John's passing.  He was fine person and a real gentleman.  John cared about people and always had a smile for everyone.  He was continually upbeat, a characteristic I found admirable and infectious.  John's approach to life and people seemed to lightened the load for everyone he encountered . . . a gift he unknowingly shared with me many times.  Farewell, John--you will be missed.

Bonny, please know many of us are holding you close to our hearts, too, feeling your loss, sending you strength, and wishing dearly to ease your sorrow.

John England was the most gracious and openly kind man ever.

I remember John and Bonnie so well.  They were such a cute couple and maybe one of the few that married after being high school sweethearts.  I remember John always wearing starched, button down collar shirts!   So sad to her of his death.  Everyone is still 18 years old to me.  Bonnie, I too live in Illinois not far from you.  I am in downtown Chicago.  Feel free to email if you would like anntrichards50@gmail.com.  We almost connected once through Priscilla Campbell but I think your kids got chicken pox!
