OBITUARY: Toni Almond Rawlings

March 8, 1951  -  March 28, 2026

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of a truly beautiful and loving soul, Toni Almond Rawlings. Born on March 8th, 1951, in Alexandria, Virginia, Toni's journey on this earth came to a peaceful end on Saturday, March 28th, 2026, as she was surrounded by the immense love of her family.

Toni's life was one of remarkable dedication and service. At the tender age of 16, she began a distinguished 41-year career as a Defense Civil Servant in the mailroom of the Pentagon. Through her unwavering commitment and exceptional talent, she rose through the ranks, retiring as a Supervisory GS15 at Fort Belvoir in 2016. Her illustrious career saw her supporting the US Air Force, US Navy, and finally the US Army, earning her countless awards and accommodations for her leadership, innovation, and her innate ability to consistently exceed every expectation.

In 1969, on the 12th of July, Toni married the love of her life, Michael Rawlings Sr., and they were looking forward to celebrating their 57th wedding anniversary this coming July. Her greatest happiness was found in the simple, precious moments spent with her immediate and extended family. She cherished catching up with the close friends she made during her long career and found a spark of joy in the responsible thrill of playing slot machines, a pastime at which she had a remarkable knack for winning.

Toni's legacy of love is carried on by her devoted husband, Michael Sr.; her three children, Michael Rawlings (and his late wife Katie), Bill Rawlings and his wife Stephanie, and Tracie Dean and her husband John. She was the proud and doting grandmother to seven grandsons: Stephen Rawlings, Brian Dean, Mark Dean, Jason Dean, Will Rawlings, Jay Rawlings, and Grant Rawlings. Toni is also survived by her siblings Lynda Hickey, Gaylon and Cindy Moomaw, Donna Moomaw, and Ted McDaniel.

She is now reunited with her siblings who preceded her in death; Gay and Lewis Finks, Chris Moomaw, Linda McDaniel, Wayne Almond, and Donald Almond.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm on Monday, April 6, 2026, at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg. A service will be held at 10:30 am on Tuesday, April 7, at the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow at 1 pm at Mount Comfort Cemetery. After the burial, a casual celebration of her life will be held at the home of Bill and Stephanie Rawlings at 4 p.m. on April 7, 2026.

No one loved their family more fiercely or with more devotion than Toni. While she will be profoundly missed, we find comfort in knowing that she is no longer in pain and is now rejoicing in a glorious reunion with her family and friends who have gone before her.
