Roland Ash Obituary
Obituary published on Legacy.com by Jefferson Funeral Chapel - Alexandria from Aug. 27 to Aug. 28, 2026.
Of Alexandria, VA, passed with family by his side August 25, 2026. He is the beloved husband of Shirley Ash and loving father of Arlen Ash (Chelsea).
Born on March 24, 1953, Roland grew up in Alexandria, VA along with his dearly loved sister, Joceline Stickney. Graduating from Fort Hunt High School in 1971, he went on to pursue a very long and successful career as a Remodeling Contractor, owning his own business for over 30 years. His admiration for old-world craftsmanship, high-end trim carpentry and attention to detail made many clients happy, with many of his projects still presenting these attributes to this day.
Beyond his professional life, Roland was a person of many passions. His deep love for music was expressed through his accomplished mandolin playing, spending several years in the band Old Friends, bringing rhythm, joy and community to everyone who heard them perform. When not picking the four string, Roland was a lover of nature and could be found outdoors, either fishing the Potomac River or playing disc golf, where he made numerous lifelong friendships. Roland found true peace and happiness in making others happy via his overwhelming compassion throughout the entirety of his life.
Roland is survived by his devoted lifelong love Shirley Ash, son Arlen Ash, daughter-in-law Chelsea Ash, granddaughter Emilee Ash, and sister Joceline Stickney. He was preceded in death by his mother Jeanine Ash, and father Laurence Ash.
A gathering will be held at Jefferson Funeral Chapel, 5755 Castlewellan Drive, Alexandria, VA on Friday, September 18, 2026, from 10AM until time of Celebration of Life service at 11AM.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Roland's memory to: Chesapeake Bay Foundation, or charity of your choice.
