Connie was the first call. Whether you needed a friend, a confidant, wise counsel, unconditional love and support, care, a shoulder, an alibi, bail money  wink, etc… Regardless of what your needs were, she was your first call. She could be counted on, trusted, and would always come through in the appropriate way, not necessarily in the way you requested, but in the right way. Her moral compass was strong. Her love and dedication for her family was ever present. Connie was my older sister of seven years, and my only sister in a sea of brothers. Our bond is unbreakable, even by death. To all who knew her, my condolences, for to know Connie is to love her.

❤️

Mary, that was a very touching write-up about your sister.  I know that the Nottinghams have lost several siblings, including one of my classmates, Jack.  Our condolences to you and your whole family.  I'm sure your big sister will always be there for you in spirit...keep asking for her advice and support  - she'll supply it to you - just listen.

Mary--I was shocked and saddened to hear of Connie's passing.  I remember going to many coffeehouse events with Connie during High School.  She was always an ebulient spirit and could see the positives in any situation.  "Kawnee" (for a time) seemed to be purpose-driven even back in our crazy High School days. Will never forget talking our way onto Ft. Belvoir (without any credentials) to go the the arts + crafts center to make some pottery.  Why?  I can't recall for the life of me.  I am reminded of her, still, in the oddest day to day moments. Sending deepest sympathy to the entire large group of family and friends who were fortunate enough to surround Connie.

Well, it seems we are set for the double celebration of lives for Dad (Stuart C Nottingham), and Nell (Connie Nottingham Pennington). It will be Saturday, October 21, in the Guback Center at the back of Aldersgate United Methodist Church. 1301 Collingwood Rd in Alexandria, VA 22308. It is at the intersection of Collingwood and Fort Hunt Rds. We will begin gathering at 10:30 with an 11am start time for the seated celebration. Lunch will immediately follow. All will be invited to share memories of Dad and/or Nell during the structured part of the celebration. We are in need of photos of these two characters. If you have any, please send them to Jen Russell. Jen is Nell’s daughter-in-love and is coordinating this event. Thank you so much, Jen. ❤️ If you plan to attend, please give me a shout out either in the comments here or via messenger so we have a general idea for chairs and food. Thank you and I hope to see you all there.
