My class with Madame Nelson provided many wonderul and funny memories.  I was part of an accelerated series that taught Frinch using text books.a native French elementary child would use.  She vowed to speak no English in class and would act out any French works that were not easily understood. I'll never for get her miming and chanting "je me brosse les dents.  Tu te bross les dents....).  We had graded exerises nearly every day and she would list the grades of each person on a separate piece of paper (her "billets doux) to be taken home and signed by a parent.  .

She was a wonderful teacher and truly an original person.  I'm glad she lived a long life and was surrounded by family.  Thank you Madame Nelson!

I remember Mr. Dingle and Mr. Levy from my years at Ft. Hunt (1968-1973).  They were both cutting edge teachers admired by their students.  I am sorry to hear he left us so soon.

I can't believe it's been 50 years since I graduated! Lots has happened since, but I've landed back in Alexandria - for now. After graduation I attended Indiana University in Bloomington to study dance - ballet specifically. I thought I'd be a modern dancer but after graduation I landed a job in the ballet company of the Nationaltheater in Mannheim, West Germany - before German re-unification. (Interestingly none of my German friends thought that would ever happen!). So I stuck with ballet. Once back in the States (where ballet companies do not pay a living wage with benefits) I worked in law firms. I started as a trademark secretary but I asked me too many questions so they gave me an office and a billing rate as punishment. (I became a trademark legal assistant.). I've also taught ballet and Pilates, which is what I'm doing now. I recently returned to Alexandria after 5 years living in NYC and plan to stay here until I fully retire, but I'm in no rush to do that!. I look forward to seeing people later this month and hearing what they have been up to.
