In Memory

Bernard R. (Pat) Hensley

"My father Bernard R. (Pat) Hensley was a Social Studies teacher who retired from Fort Hunt not too long before it closed.  He was one of the original faculty hired when the school opened.  He died August 6, 1998 at Mt. Vernon Hospital from a massive stroke following emergency surgery on his main heart aorta. He had to be taken off of life support. My mother who retired from Waynewood Elementary and had also taught at Hollin Hall Elementary died in 2002,  My brothers are also alumni, Mark Hensley (1974)  Robert Hensley (1982)."

Mr. Hensley was the first teacher at FHHS who sparked my intellectual curiousity.  He actually asked for my opinions in class and then queried me as to why I held them.  He was a good man and one of the great teachers that inspired me in my own career in teaching.  I am very sorry to hear that he has passed and wanted his family to know that he was indeed special in my life.

I had both your mom and dad as teachers.  Absolutely adored them both.  Your mom made such an impression on me at Hollin Hall.
