DECEASED ALUM: STUART WAYNE PARTIN, FHHS '71

Stuart Wayne Partin, 70, was called home to glory on December 19, 2022, following a brief bout with cancer. Wayne was born October 1, 1952; he is predeceased by his parents, Brigadier General Benton Kirk Partin and Cynthia Joy (Wells) Partin, of Alexandria, VA.
Wayne was a life-long student of theology, and those geopolitical events surrounding the history of an America he loved and served.

He loved to study and discuss major events of the 20th century, as well as the histories of the Civil War, the American Revolution, and the works of various writers on those subjects. He greatly enjoyed touring Civil War sites (mainly in Virginia) and family heritage sites, including family graves in North Carolina. He wrote excellent vignettes of family events and history. Wayne learned to play the bagpipes, being instructed by Sandy Jones-Pipe Sergeant of the USAF Pipe Band, and the two together adapted John Newton's "Amazing Grace" for the bagpipes.

He was a 1970 graduate of Fort Hunt High School, in Alexandria, VA. He was admitted to the Air Force Academy in the Fall of 1970. However, Wayne became chronically ill while attending BAC-Basic Airborne Course (Jump School) at Fort Benning, GA. After receiving a medical discharge, Wayne went on to obtain a Bachelor's Degree in History, from Covenant College, Lookout Mountain, GA, and furthered his education receiving both a Master of Arts and Religion and Master of Divinity degrees from Westminster Theological Seminary, in Philadelphia, PA.

Outside his personal salvation, the next most significant event in Wayne's life was meeting his future wife, Rebecca (Call) Partin - "Becky" - in December 1979, at Engleside Baptist Church in Alexandria, VA. They married on May 31, 1980, and settled in Chester, VA, to raise their family. He worked primarily as a self-employed paint contractor, and assisted in property maintenance management. Wayne enjoyed visiting places of beauty and, like his father before him, strived to have a well-landscaped yard, full of colorful flowers and lots of birds.
Wayne struggled with health issues most of his adult life, but kept a generally good spirit and patiently trusted in God with rare complaint.

Wayne was a great conversationalist and could be very entertaining; he was almost encyclopedic on topics of history and theology. Wayne greatly enjoyed visiting with family, especially their yearly Partin reunion, at Sunset Beach in North Carolina. He loved Springer Spaniels and is survived by his faithful Springer, "Daisy".

Wayne is survived by his wife of forty-two years, Becky of Chesterfield, VA; and three children, David Wayne Partin (Ania) of Ewa Beach, HI, Joy Nicole Shelton (John) of Chesterfield, VA, and Ruthie Sanborn (Cameron) also of Chesterfield, VA. He also leaves behind nine grandchildren, Julianna Nottingham (Nate), David W. Partin II, James Shelton, Belle Sanborn, Jenny Shelton, Samuel Sanborn, Leonidas Partin, Elsie Sanborn, and Joy Shirley Shelton.

Wayne is survived by two brothers, Benton Kirk Partin II of Columbia, SC and Howard Bruce Partin (Terri) of Hollis, NH; and a sister, Bonnie Gail Kidd (Mike) of Fairfax Station, VA; his sister-in-law, Dallas S. Partin of Columbia, SC; Wayne's mother-in-law, Shirley Call; and Becky Partin's siblings, David Call (Pam) of Chester, VA, and Karen Kirkham (Donald) of Florence, SC.

There was a public viewing Monday, December 26, 2022, at the J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home, at 3050 West Hundred Road, Chester, VA. A memorial service celebrating his life was held at Grace Bible Church, 1200 Coalfield Rd, Midlothian, VA, Tuesday, December 27, 2022, followed by burial at Amelia Veterans Cemetery in Amelia, VA.
