Jim was a self taught musician playing both guitar and piano. He had earned his Master's degree and PhD in Sociology by the age of 24. He went on to become well known for his academic research, grant writing and professional articles published. He later earned a Master's degree in Public Health.
At the time of his death he was a respected faculty member at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, VA. Jim had a special sense of humor that while subtle, was often hysterically funny. His unexpected death after a brief illness has left a big hole in his family.

I was very sorry to get the news about Jim. We had just reconnected by email last year. He was an excellent musician who I played with occasionally in HS. He had a dry, wry sense of humor. He sold me a beautiful jazz guitar that I still own.

I'm saddened to hear of Jim's passing. I did not know him well in HS, but remember one of my teachers commenting on what an incredible research paper he had written - by way of setting the bar for the rest of us.
