Some of the best times and some of the worst times were with you or because of you.  Rest in peace, Dick.

Dick and I entered the Army together and were inducted in Richmond, VA on June 27, 1969.  We then traveled by bus, train, train, train, bus and bus (three nights) and arrived at Fort Polk, LA on July 1 and we went thought basic training together and then on to Fort Wolters, TX and then Fort Rucker, AL for flight traing.

I graduated flight school one class, two weeks, ahead of Dick and I went to Sunny South Vietnam as a Huey Slick (troop transport) pilot while Dick went to Fort Sam Houston, TX for the Medevac pilot course and then he went to S. Vietnam.

I never saw him after I graduated in late July, 1970 but I did run into people who flew/worked with him in the 82nd Medical Evacuation (Medevac) Detachment (Helicopter) and said he did well.  Medevac flying is as tough as it gets.  All single aircraft, all times of the day and night and all types of weather and the "Red Cross" on the side of the aircraft was just an aiming point for the V.C. although the NVA troups were more disciplined and would with hold firing when they saw the Red Cross.

Dick and I went through Army Flight School together and he graduated two weeks after I did in Aug. 1970.  He attended the AMed school at Fort Sam Houston before going to Vietnam and served with the 82 Medical Detachement, Helicopter Ambulance and was attached to the 101st Abn Div. From the people I talked to he was well regarded.
