Richard Vincent Boren - Class Of 1967

Richard Vincent Boren, Nov. 22, 1948 - April 6, 2011

Richard passed away at age 62 from Lou Gehrig's disease.  He resided in Denton, TX, and is survived by his brother, J. Stan Boren from the FHHS class of 1968.

Richard was the Class of '67 Valedictorian and gave the commencement speech at his graduation.

"Richard taught special education students in Charlottesville, VA as well as Pennsylvania and in New York. He retired in 2006 from Oakland School in Annandale, VA and moved to Denton, Texas to be closer to his father. Richard developed and implemented a special reading and study skills curriculum that was instrumental in improving the academic functioning of many students at Oakland School. Richard felt that this program was "his legacy" and an accomplishment of which he was most proud." ~ Stan Boren

Richard was in many of my classes throughout our 4 years at Fort Hunt.  Though always quiet, he let go a little in Band.  He and Alan Hoffman excelled in class, and helped me make it through 3 years with Mr. Christie.  Super smart, and always willing to help you when you asked a question, I'm sure his students appreciated his dedication.  Rest in peace.
