November 13, 1955 - April 19, 2025
Darrell Manning Wells, born on November 13, 1955, in Coronado, California, passed away peacefully in his sleep on April 19, 2025. He will be remembered as a diligent professional in the fields of finance, accounting and food and beverage, where he made many friends for life.
Darrell’s passion for sports was evident throughout his life. He was a fervent Redskins fan, a dedicated supporter of College of Charleston basketball, the Baltimore Orioles and the Florida Gators. His love for athletics extended beyond the sidelines; Darrell played football and rowed crew in high school and was also an avid golfer throughout his life.
An enthusiast of the beach and life’s simple pleasures, Darrell was a true Parrot Head, enjoying the music of Jimmy Buffett and the camaraderie it fostered among friends. He was an avid reader and shared his love of reading with others, including leading a book club. Darrell loved to give gifts to others and to help out whenever needed. His personality shone brightly as someone who cherished deep conversation over a beer, meeting new people and having fun.
Darrell is survived by his mother, Sigrid Nordwall Smith (Arthur H. Smith), and his siblings, Peter Byron Wells (Cathy) of Driggs, Idaho, and Christopher Bryce Wells (Celia) of Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina. He is also survived by his cherished nephews and nieces: Jack Rainey (Sarah) of Idaho Falls, Idaho, Megan Wolf (Zac) of Boise, Idaho, Peter Wells (Aislinn) of Portland, Oregon, Michael Wells of Sandy, Oregon, Bryce Wells of Mt. Pleasant and Casey Wells of Mt. Pleasant. Further continuing his legacy are his great-nephews: Cullen and Colson Rainey, Nolan and Arlo Wolf, and Aiden, Landon, and Cooper Wells.
Darrell was preceded in death by his father, Peter Manning Wells.
A celebration of his life will be held at a later date, where friends and family will gather to honor the memory of this remarkable man who touched many lives with his warmth, kindness, and enthusiasm. His spirit will forever remain with those who had the pleasure of knowing him.

I'm just so sorry to hear this about Darrell. I met Darrell through MYF at Aldersgate and then as a classmate at FHHS. He was always so fun to be around and we went on many retreats together, parties with our group, and he always made it to our various MYF reunions over the years. He also helped me by taking some of Donald Hamlin's ashes to Myrtle Beach in 2019. Such a wonderful, all around good guy. He will be missed terribly. Rest easy, my friend.
