"Well, I have the sad and unfortunate duty to notify friends of the passing of Ellwood Augustine Wheatley, older brother of my best friend Tom Wheatley.

Ellwood passed away last Tuesday (2/7/23) from an apparent massive heart attack, but I was hesitant to post anything out of respect for Tommy and the family. Ellwood was a great guy and musician. I’m sure most of the Fort Hunt High School crew remembers him performing back in school. In fact, I have two of his guitars that I bought from him a few years back to remember him by, so he’ll always be with me in some way.

At this time, I have no information regarding services or viewings, so I’m unable to communicate on that.

Please keep Tom, Lisa, Dylan Wheatley and Lindsay Oakes and Ellwood’s family in your thoughts and prayers.

Rest In Peace, Ellwood. You will be missed."

My friendship with Ellwood goes back to Hollin Hall Elementary in about 4th grade.  He always seemed bigger than life, yet was a kind gentle soul. We played alot together, along with his brother Tom.  God be with you, Ellwood.

Though I knew who he was, I didn't actually know him, sad to say. I do have fond memories of his music though. My condolences to his family.

Ronnie (and Reggie) Lyles with Tom sang such sweet
harmonies during their gigs at the FHHS "coffee houses". I felt they brought Greenwich Village to the suburbs. Tom's picking and singing were as gentle as his personality. A genuine nice guy.

Comment #5 Carol Mock......What, Ellwood's mom "Eleanor" was a LunchLady, the best ever!  She always loaded up my plate! Ellwood must of been flirting with you, as he could've had all the Shepherd's Pie he wanted.

So funny.

Although I hadn't seen Elwood since graduation I have fond memories of him. We also met at Hollin Hall Elementary around the 4th grade. RIP Woody.

I'm really sad to hear this news, I remember Ellwood & Ronnie performing after some of the high school football games.  Ellwood and I shared a slow dance (I believe it was 6th grade or middle school), that was my first slow dance. RIP, Ellwood, I'm sure you had an excellent, full life.

I have fond memories of Ellwood as a dear guy, a talented musician.  We shared a "crush" in very early time at FHHS.  Rest in peace, Ellwood.

To Ellwood's family and friends.

We write to you to express our sadness and heartfelt condolences. We have enjoyed our association with Ellwood  at FHHS and into our retirement years.  We are sorry for your loss and we hope you can find comfort in the memory of your many good times together and of your loving bond.

We pray that the peace which comes from those memories comfort you now and in the days ahead.  Though he is deeply missed, he is certainly in a place of total love, acceptance, and peace with all the family members who have gone home before him.

A song that touched me when my parents passed is “Going Home" by Libera, an angelic boys’ choir

Aww, Woody (he let me get away with calling him that for some reason), I'm so sad to see you go. But say hi to Ronnie, and keep the tunes comin'.

I lost track of Ellwood after school, but a number of years ago, I started running into him at Giant from time to time. We'd chat away for a good, long while. He was working for Verizon then, I think. Later, I heard somewhere that he'd retired and moved out of the area, so I lost him again. But fond, affectionate memories ... Heartfelt sympathies to his family.
