In Memory

John Hammond - Class Of 1984

"John Hammond, Fort Hunt High School Class of '84, passed away Saturday [January 12, 2013] after a six year battle with cancer. I never knew John in high school but in the ensuing years of our adult lives he didn't just become my friend, but one of my best friends. A finer human being you won't meet. Maybe you didn't know him in school either but you might have in Old Town. John was a mainstay behind the bar at Union St. Public House for many years. I miss my old buddy already but take solace in the fact that I got to be part of his special world. Rest in peace buddy."

~Bob Bastedo, ('81)

From Kerry Hammond's page concerning services for John Hammond:

To honor John’s wishes, in lieu of a traditional service or wake, we will host a Celebration of Life for John Hammond- a gathering to remember John and to visit with his family and friends.

We will be welcoming guests Monday, January 28 between 12 noon and 4 pm at Columbia Firehouse Restaurant (109 South St. Asaph St, Old Town Alexandria, VA 22314). Friends are encouraged to stop by and toast a man we all loved. We intend for the event to be a casual gathering and visitors are welcome to come and go as needed. Bring a funny story and a happy memory.

We are currently gathering photos of John so feel free to post them here or share a story of how you came to know (and love) John Hammond.

Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Pheo-Para Alliance (P.O. Box 504, Arlington VA 22216).
