I'm saddened to learn of Gary's passing. One of my first summer jobs (other than mowing lawns and delivering the Post and the Washington Star) was working at Rudd Pools - before I had a driver's license. Hard work! (shoveling sand into an insatiable gunite machine in the hot sun definitely motivated me to get my college degree!) Though Gary was one of the owner's sons (Gordon worked there, too), he never acted privileged and never expected me to do any job he wouldn't do himself. Later, we shared some long rides to and from Blacksburg during our college days. Even then, Gary had a business mindset, was quite focused and mature beyond his years. He was not beyond having some fun, however, and fortunately we didn't get caught! Rest in peace, Gary. See you on the flip side.
