We appreciate the overwhelming love and support offered for Lorraine Grant and her family from her many, many friends.

Lorraine will be home in Virginia soon and there will be a mass of Christian burial and a celebration of Lorraine’s life at a later date (hopefully this coming Spring) due to current travel and health concerns within our family.

The tremendous number of people who have reached out to us over the past few days as well as the heartfelt words offered on FB has been a tremendous help to our family as deal with her sudden loss ... our whole family appreciates the love and support more than you could imagine.

From Tesa Jones, FHHS '69 and one of Lorraine's best friends, July 25th on Facebook

Last night, I heard the sad news. We lost another Fort Hunt Federal. This time -- a dear friend -- a lifetime friend -- who has ALWAYS been kind and supportive. Lorraine loved unconditionally and with her entire heart. She will be missed by many.

Go with the angels, Lorraine -- because you deserve to be among them...R.I.P.

From David Grant ('79), Lorraine's brother, on July 2021:

Just under a year ago we lost our dear sister Lorraine ... due to the pandemic some of our family members could not travel for a service for Lorraine. We are now able to celebrate Lorraine's life. Here is Lorraine's obituary and the information for a Wake and Mass in honor of Lorraine. We will try and forward this information to Lorraine's friends ... but please feel free to share as we don't have all of Lorraine's friends contact information. Thank you all for all the wonderful notes, calls and support for Lorraine, her family and friends.

Lorraine Mary Grant, aged 69, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday July 23, 2020, due to a heart attack. Lorraine was born on February 6, 1951, in Alexandria, VA to Edmund and Shirley Grant. Lorraine loved people and people loved Lorraine. She had a vast circle of friend, too many to count, and never missed a chance to visit with and introduce friends. She loved her family … her nieces and nephews were her pride and joy and she loved to share pictures and stories with anyone and everyone she could.

Lorraine was very close with our cousins, aunts and uncles, often traveling the country and world with her extended family. Lorraine had a wonderful and fulfilling career. She worked on Capitol Hill for over twenty years for several members of congress, leaving as a Chief of Staff in 1992 to begin her second career in the Veterans Administration working for the Chief Financial Officer. She served as a Senior Analyst and the organizational Continuity of Operations representative.

Lorraine retired after 38 years of dedicated public service in 2010. Lorraine is preceded in death by her mother, Shirley Grant (1988) and her father, Ed Grant (2003). Lorraine is survived by her sister Eileen Kirsch (Bob) of Columbus, OH, her brother Ed Grant (Pat) of Dayton, OH, her brother, David Grant (Liz) of Alexandria, VA and seven wonderful nieces and nephews – Sarah, Libby, Ed, Lauren, Kevin, Jimmy, Ryan, and five beautiful grand nieces and nephews – Ellie, Maya, Tommy, Alexander, Julian and one soon to be born angel, who all adored her and she adored them even more, as well as the love of her life Art Gill, and together they were extraordinarily happy.

There will be a mass of Christian burial and a celebration of Lorraine’s life: Wake – Sunday, July 11, 2021, from 4pm – 6 pm at Demaine’s Funeral Home, Alexandria, VA Mass – Monday, July 12, 2021, 10:30am at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, Alexandria, VA Burial – to follow Mass at Mt. Comfort Cemetery, Alexandria VA We appreciate the overwhelming love and support offered for Lorraine, her family and many, many friends.

Lorraine was the best, always reaching out to keep in contact. We ran around in similar circles in HS, and I was privileged to make contact with her sweet self on this website. We will all miss her tremendously. Peace be with all of her family and friends.

The Class of 1969 and all Fort Hunt High School Federals mourn the loss of Ms.Lorraine Grant.   Condolences are extended to her family and friends during this difficult time. The life of Lorraine is to be celebrated.  She was a bundle of warmth, joy, and humor, for whom we looked forward to seeing at the annual Fort Hunt High School Reunions.   Lorraine was an important member of the Fort Hunt High School Class of 1969 Fiftieth Graduation Anniversary Reunion Committee.  She and Lois Hunt Drury researched possible venues for the July 27, 2019, Saturday Night Gala, and once the Committee decided on the Fort Belvoir Officers' Club as the location, helped coordinate the Event and finalized the menu.  We will miss you, Lorraine.
