Edward Collins "Ed" Unger, II - Class Of 1968

Edward C. Unger, Jr., passed peacefully at home on Jan. 3, 2010. He was born on Jan. 10, 1950, in Mt Clemens, Mich., to Col. Edward C. Unger and Dorothy Unger. He had the good fortune to experience the world as his parents were stationed in Europe, Guam, Hawaii, and many states in the U.S. He is survived by his mother, Dorothy Unger; sister, JoAnn Wolf (Buzz); brothers, Larry (Shirley), David (Dawn), and Matthew; and nephews, Jake, Cyril, and David, Jr.

Ed and Carolyn married in Carmichael, Calif., and soon moved to the Bay Area for job opportunities. He worked for 10 years as a sales manager for a financial firm until he retired due to multiple unsuccessful back surgeries.

He was a loving husband to Carolyn for 35 years. When he was unable to work he volunteered his time serving on the Santa Clara Grand Jury. He was a member of the Milipitas Planning Commission, President of the Terrace Gardens Retirement faculty and various projects and commissions. In addition, he returned to San Jose State to earn a degree in Gerontology. In 1998 He and Carolyn returned to Sacramento where they resided in El Dorado Hills with their beloved Golden Retriever. Ed loved history and literature and was an avid reader who was very opinionated in his political views. He was a gourmet cook and loved to cook for friends and family. He will be remembered for his sense of humor and his love of all creatures. He will be sorely missed. A memorial mass will be held in his honor Friday Jan. 8, 2010 at 1:30 p.m., at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in El Dorado Hills. A reception will follow at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Diabetic Association, Homeward Bound Golden Retriever Rescue, or your preferred charity.
