John William King '68 passed away on December 24, 2017.  While at Fort Hunt High School, he was member of the wrestling team.  He attended Gettysburg College, Virginia Tech and the Medical College of Virginia.  He was one of the leading orthodontists in the Richmond, VA area where he treated thousands of patients during the course of his career.  John was an avid golf and tennis player, runner, skier, and a dedicated Redskins fan.  He was a loyal FHHS alum and a member of the FHHS '68 Boyz.

He will be missed by his high school classmates and will always be remembered for his intelligence, sense of humor, and for his enjoyment of culinary pleasures.  He is survived by his brother Thomas King who also attended FHHS as well as his wife Donna Smith King and his daughter Lillie Madison King who, like her father, is gifted skier.

I knew John since the seventh grade and through the Fort Hunt years. He was smart, clever and just a really good guy. No one could hope for a better or more sincere person. He will be missed by all who knew him.

When my family moved from California to Virginia a week before the start of my freshman year, I knew nobody.  John King was a neighbor, and he was kind enough to befriend me and introduce me to others.  Additionally, I remember how much I appreciated him giving me rides in his new Mustang!

We went to a football game one night....there were three of us....and we were walking back to John's car, when three other guys, looking for a fight, asked us, "Hey, do you guys want to fight?"  Without hesitation, John replied, "Yeah, let's go!"

One of the instigators said, "Ah....no....that's alright.  We had you mistaken for some other guys."  Then I heard one of them explain to the others, "This guy is a great wrestler....let's find some different guys."

If I hadn't been with John that night, I'm sure that I would've gotten my ass kicked.

John King was a really good guy.

Great story, David.  Got me laughing on that one.  Football games on dark fall evenings brought out the rowdiness in a lot of high school males....it was always good to have a friend who was big, tough or big & tough.  Thanks for adding your comments on John.
