Pat was a lovely and intelligent young lady.

It is with lingering sadness that I recall that she died in a tragic car accident during our years at Fort Hunt.

I believe (although I'm not positive of the year) it was during our Junior year which would make the year of her death 1966 or 1967.

As a casual acquaintance of Pat's, I would like to extend our belated, but heartfelt, sympathy to her family and friends.

Sincerely,

Charles B. Edwards (Class of 1968)

****  Research by the Alumni Association found a Senior Year photo of Patricia in the 1968 FHHS Fortress yearbook, meaning that she was still with us in September of 1967.  Since her passing is remembered as earlier, rather than later, in her senior year I am going to post her passing as 1967.  If anyone has information to the contrary, please let the Alumni Group know - and thanks.

UPDATE:  Corrected  Pat's passing to 1968 based on information received - thanks to all who posted.

I remember hearing the sad news of Pat's death from a car accident in the summer of 1968,not long after our graduation.

I remember being so shocked and saddened.

Pat graduated with us in 1968 and began college in the fall. She arrived home for Thanksgiving break the Wednesday before Thanksgiving; that night, five of us who were friends--Pat, Lesley Mansur, Marti Garrison, Vicki Nankervis, and yours truly--had a slumber party at Lesley's. Friday evening Pat was going to a party with someone she had just begun dating; one of the tires on the car blew out, the car flipped over, and Pat died.

A very sad loss, one I remember to this day.

I don't have the senior yearbook at hand, but if memory serves one of the last pages was captioned something like: "And finally we come to the end of the journey." The picture beneath the caption was of a crowd in the Fort Hunt gym -- I'm guessing maybe for the senior-faculty basketball game at the end of the year. Everyone in the picture is looking away from the camera towards the other end of the court. Except for Pat, who is looking directly at the camera with kind of a haunted look on her face. Quite eery, given that she was the first graduate in our class to pass. Someone correct me if I'm misremembering the picture.

Joe Fix was the class member who died in a car wreck junior year. November,1966.

Pat died in a car accident on the Exit Ramp coming off of I495 onto Rt. 1 right at the Fort Hunt Road area... That happened very shortly after we all Graduated... So she passed away in 1968.
