On April 17, 2015, William "Bill" Ephraim Cresswell, Jr. of Mason Neck, Virginia died peacefully at home after a prolonged courageous battle with cancer. He is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife, Mary Beth Cutting, M.D. and his son, Spencer. He is also survived by his beloved mother, Catherine M. Cresswell, and his siblings, Catherine R. and Stephen E. Cresswell. He was preceded in death by his father, William E. Cresswell, Sr.

He was born in Jackson, Mississippi on January 23, 1953. He grew up in the Mount Vernon, Virginia area and graduated from Fort Hunt High School. After receiving his degree at Cornell University's School of Hotel Administration, Bill went on to a two-decade career in hotel and restaurant management. He founded Cresswell and Co., a real estate development firm.

He volunteered extensively as a local leader in several neighborhoods and Boy Scouts. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, and was especially active in his church, where he used his talents to assist in the planning and execution of a major renovation.

Services were held at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 8710 Mount Vernon Hwy., Alexandria, VA 22309. Visitation on April 22. His Mass of Christian Burial was Thursday, April 23 at 10:30 a.m. Private interment will follow at Pohick Episcopal Church in Lorton, VA.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his honor to United Community Ministries, 7511 Fordson Rd., Alexandria, VA 22306, or to Lorton Community Action Center, P.O. Box 154, Lorton, VA 22199.
