Guy Adams (1973)

My brother Geoff was the second person to graduate from FHHS.  Standing at 6'9", he would have been hard to miss walking the halls.  He was an avid classic car enthusiast, even in high school, and through the years collected several, including a real Austin Mini-Cooper that he had to remove the rear seat from so as to fit in by sliding the front seat back.  He attended George Washington University for 2 years but didn't graduate.  He did, however, meet his future wife, Lynn Grant of Potomac, MD, there.  They were married in one of the chapels of Washington National Cathedral in, I think, 1969.  The son of a career artist, he was the only one of his children to inherit the artistic ability and he used that to carve out a career for himself as the owner of a boutique advertising company, specializing in advertising for auto dealerships.  Sadly, he passed in 1999.  According to his wishes, he was cremated and his ashes spread by his wife at a preserve (sorry to have forgotten the name) near D.C.  At that service, many of the guests from his wedding were in attendance, including the same bagpipe player who played Amazing Grace on his behalf.  He is survived by his wife and two brothers.

Guy - Thanks for the nice remembrance of your brother.  Nicely done.  I know it has been a while, but you have our condolence for your loss...he seemed to have lived a fine life, even if shortened.

The preserve you're thinking of may be the National Arboretum in N.E. Washington, DC.  It's over 400 acres and a beautiful place for an extended 'rest'.

I love the FHHS nugget about Geoff graduating #2.  His classmate, Shearon Acree was #1 and the last Federal to walk the graduation line was Tom Ziemba in 1985. Tom gave a hilarious speech at our 50th Birthday Party for the school at West Potomac HS in 2013.

Thanks again for adding to your brother's remembrance, Guy.

Geoffrey was into sports cars of all kinds. I had helped him to install the passengers seat from my Austin-Healey Sprite  against the front of the back seat in his Mini Cooper. We had the shorten the gear shift leveler to get it out from under his knee cap.It was quite a sight to see him(6'10") climb out of a ten foot long car.

Leonard - Wish there was a photo of Geoff exiting that sports car! Thanks for adding another remembrance.
