Robert Mark "Bobby" Richards - Class Of 1973 VIEW PROFILE

From the Salisbury University webisite, Feb 2013:

"The weekend of December 7th and 8th 2007 saw several generations of Sea Gull football players and fans gather to reminisce and remember a special member of the SU Football Family - Bobby Richards.  Bobby's Boys gathered to recall wonderful moments, renew old friendships and preserve the memory of a 5'9 175 Defensive Tackle whose life ended all too soon, but whose desire, attitude and determination lives on through the Bobby Richards Award."

Bobby Richards was a FHHS athlete who went on to play for Salisbury State Football along with other FHHS alums, Bart Boucher ('72) and Mike Walter ('73).  Bart describes Bobby as undersized, but played with heart and the ferocity of a much larger player.  Bobby is obviously well-remember and well-thought of by his old school as the Bobby Richards Award is given to Salisbury U players each year who show the most 'heart'.

Bobby was killed in a head-on car accident returning to home from school in Salisbury, MD.

I was recently viewing information about the new head coach of the Washington Redskins ("Commanders" — yuk), Dan Quinn.  The team's website proudly notes that Dan Quinn was a two-time captain during his playing days at Salisbury University, where he received the team's Bobby Richards Award, a prestigious honor for the player exhibiting the most heart — showing enthusiasm, and a team-first attitude.  Three cheers for Fort Hunt's Bobby Richards!

Mike - Thanks for the post.  Bobby was such a nice guy which was so opposite of his on-field attitude.

At 5'9", he might have been considered small-ish, but would YOU want to mess with this??  LOL!
