Christopher Rolfe Kelly - Class Of 1973

 
DECEASED ALUM:  CHRIS KELLY, FHHS '73
 
Christopher Rolfe Kelly, a long time Williamsburg resident, passed away in Southern Pines NC on February 7th, 2019. Chris graduated from William & Mary in 1977, later received a Master of Journalism from Columbia, and Masters of History from UVA. Subsequent to being a PhD program at UVA, he taught political science for a few years at W&M and Mary Washington College.
 
Eventually his love of all types of music and movies lead him to work at record and video stores in Williamsburg Virginia. He worked at Echoes, and later managed the Williamsburg branch of Plan Nine music. Chris moved to Southern Pines in 2015 to retire and be near his brother, Jeff.
 
Chris was proud to be an over-50 year survivor of Type 1 Diabetes and epilepsy. He may have had many health challenges in his life but he was blessed to have two loving and learned parents, Ruth and Merrill Kelly. He will be remembered for his intellect, wry sense of humor and generosity. He left a collection of over 2,500 CD's, vinyl records and DVD's.

Michael "Mike" Crawford (1973)

So sorry to hear about Chris's passing.  He was clearly one of the most intelligent people in our class and once you got to know him, you realized he had a terrific sense of humor.  He certainly helped break up the boredom in many classes for me with his sotto voce wisecracks during our time at Stephen Foster and Fort Hunt.  Goodbye, Chris!
