In Memory

Garrett Davis Buckner III - Class Of 1973

Gary died in a freak accident in Alexandria involving an automobile on March 14, 1980.  He was 26 years old at the time of his death.  Gary has a sister, Alice and a brother, Clay who attended FHHS as well.

Gary and his family had a very "open lifestyle' at their family home off of Cool Springs Drive.  They hosted dozens of parties where they welcomed Fort Hunt Federals of all classes.  Gary was a very interesting guy and always welcomed me to his home.  He also had access to his mother's Pontiac GTO which led to several memorable rides!

Thank you Joe.   I still remember those parties (and the GTO) quite clearly, and I think I hear In-A Gadda-Vida playing right now.   Far too young to die.

I remember the GTO, the parties, the car 8 track hooked up to a train transformer blasting out Black Sabbath through two big Sansui speakers down in the rec room.  I remember the late night poker games in the kitchen and the later night trips to Clanceys in DC.  I remember we stayed friends after high school and after I left for the Army.  I remember what a sad day it was when I heard about your death.   But what stands out the most is what a good friend you were Gary ...you haven't been forgotten..

I knew Gary pretty well cause he lived in my neighbor hood off Coolspring Dr.

Gary built a Ship of The constitiution on his moms dinning room table that

she was prety proud of. Gary and his buddies were out one day and of course

doin things your not suppose to do. I recall him passing just before his 25th

Birthday so correct me if i.m wrong. He hung Out with Jonnny Goezer quite

a bit. He always stood up for me and was like my best buddy. He rented

a Basement from me after High School years in a Town house that i Rented.

Gary was always talking about his father who served in the Military and was

very proud of what his dad acheived. Gary became a Metro Rail Safety Inspector

for a while till he got laid off. Gary also loved to cook and was pretty good at doing

up a great meal. Many a party was at his house in Coolspring Dr. Homes. His

brother looks like his twin. Last i herd from them was his sister who was working

in DC somewher. Gary's Mother moved to DC to live next to her work by Capital hill.

Gary was a great leader and someone to look up to. He would always stand for what

we all believed in and would stand up for those in the military. Never forget those that

have passed that have set a path that is greater then the path you are on.
