Bradley William "Brad" Phillips - Class Of 1975

Deceased Alum:  Brad Phillips, FHHS '75

Bradley William Phillips, 59, of Pigeon Forge, passed away on Monday, November 28, 2016. A native of Alexandria, VA, he and his beloved wife of 35 years, Melanie, fulfilled their dream of living near the mountains of East Tennessee, and relocated in October 2016 to a beautiful home in the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountain National Park.

In retirement he looked forward to establishing roots in his new community, sharing his love of music, history, and animals. A gifted musician, he played saxophone in the U.S. Army Band for 21 years, followed by a 16-year career as a licensed electrician with Ennis Electric. He also played the piano and the hammered dulcimer that he hand built using museum drawings.

Brad was a gentle spirit, kind, generous and a caring friend to anyone needing help or a listening ear. He delighted all who knew him with a keen wit and his unforgettably infectious laugh.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Perry and Caralyn Phillips of Alexandria, and is survived by his wife, daughter Amanda Phillips-Byram (Matthew), sister Terri Payne (Bill), nieces Laurel Purdy and Cyndi Hudson, and nephews Brent Wood and Jonathon Payne.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Citizens National Bank to the Gatlinburg and Sevier County Relief Fund, 200 Forks of the River Parkway Sevierville, TN 37862 or the Tennessee Volunteers After Disasters, tnvoad.shutterfly.com, are also welcoming donations to support those affected by the East Tennessee fires.

I just found the fhhs-alum web page this week (September 2023), so I am many years late i learning of this sad news. I joined Fort Hunt in the middle of my junior year, and was a fellow band geek with Brad. He was open and welcoming, and he and I had many fun times for the couple of years I was in Virginia. We had an open class period at the same time our senior year, and would take long lunches over by the Potomac. We were always laughing at something.

Brad was a kind hearted, funny person who really helped this newbie feel at home. I am sad that he's gone; the world is a sadder place without him.
