Jeanne Doherty (Lusk) - Class Of 1981

Jeanne Doherty (Lusk)

DECEASED  ALUM:  JEANNE MARIE DOUGHERTY LUSK, FHHS '81

Hendersonville - Jeanne Marie Lusk, beloved mother, wife, sister, daughter, and friend said, "Farewell," to the world on October 9, 2019 as she finally succumbed to a months-long bout after suffering a traumatic brain injury. Dealt enough disease and bodily hardship throughout her life to demoralize an army, Jeanne unflinchingly refused to let physical ailments dampen her spirits and instead showed the world a kind and unconditional love that was as inspiring as it was relentless.

Born to Daniel and Anne Doherty in Long Island, NY on October 30, 1962, Jeanne spent her childhood in Alexandria, VA and graduated from the Medical College of Virginia Commonwealth University in 1985 with a B.S. in Nursing. She married Thomas Irad Lusk in February 1986 in Richmond, VA, eventually moving to Hendersonville, TN (by way of Atlanta) where they raised their three children (though the "Atlanta" really stuck, and Jeanne remained a lifelong, diehard Braves fan—in fact, it is no wonder they lost the deciding game of the 2019 National League Division Series 13-1, as they lost their biggest fan that day).

A generous caretaker in heart, soul, and, practice, Jeanne dedicated her life to helping others as a pediatric nurse working in hospitals, as a Sumner County school nurse alongside her growing children, and as a clinical supervisor overseeing home care for children in need. While one might define Jeanne by the myriad of illnesses she battled and overcame throughout her life, she clearly and definitively chose not to. Hodgkin's lymphoma, breast cancer, open-heart surgery, Cushing's Syndrome, stroke, and more were just annoyances for Jeanne as she remained devoted to her work and to her friends and family. Always thinking of others, Jeanne was making a surprise visit in June 2019 to her daughter in Colorado when she fell unexpectedly and was hospitalized in Denver due to a severe head injury. She was 56 when she passed.

Jeanne lives on in the hearts, minds, and actions of her husband Tommy, children Erin, Michael, and Daniel, dog Clover, parents Dan and Anne, siblings Patty, Mary, Gerry, and her many, many loving friends.

Friends and family will gather for a Celebration of Life at the First United Methodist Church, 217 E Main St, Hendersonville, TN at 1:00pm on Friday, October 25, 2019. Visitation will be 11:00am until time of service.

In memory of Jeanne, please consider making a donation to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (bcrf.org) or to the Cushing's Support & Research Foundation (csrf.net).

"There are no goodbyes, only farewells."
